Azerbaijani journalist complained about the Georgian government to the ECHR
Baku/12.03.21/Turan: Journalist Afgan Mukhtarli living in exile in Germany complained about the Georgian government to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for refusing to enter the country. He wrote about this on my facebook page.
Mukhtarli notes that in October 2020, under the pretext of a pandemic, he was not allowed in Tbilisi. “Last time the speaker of the Georgian parliament, Archil Talakvadze, said that my arrival before the parliamentary elections could cause political confrontation. If the authorities had not been implicated in my abduction, they would have allowed me to come,” Mukhtarli writes.
Investigative journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, who collaborated with the Internet channel Meydan TV, was kidnapped in Tbilisi in May 2017 and secretly transported to Azerbaijan, where he was accused of smuggling, illegal border crossing, violence against a border guard and sentenced to 6 years in prison. ...
The arrest of Mukhtarli was condemned by the European Parliament and international human rights organizations. Amnesty International recognized him as a "prisoner of conscience". His lawyers filed a complaint against the governments of Georgia and Azerbaijan with the ECHR.
On March 17, 2020, the court released Mukhtarly ahead of schedule, he was immediately put on a plane and sent to Germany.-0203B-
