Azerbaijani MPs Richer than Armenian MPs and Poorer than Georgian Ones
Baku / 04.05.18 / Turan: On May 1, the salary of the MPs of Azerbaijan, which was already high, compared to the average earnings of other state-budget employees (540 manat), was raised.
From now on, the chairman of the Parliament will receive 2,475 manat (until now - AZN 2,250), his first deputy - 2,227 manat (it was 2,015), the deputy chairman - 2,103 manat (it was -1,912.5), the chairmen of committees - 1,980 manat (it was 1,800), the vice-chairmen of committees - 1,856 manat, and ordinary MPs - "only" 1,732 manat (it was 1,575).
Turan compared the salaries of Azerbaijani legislators with monthly earnings in the parliaments of the neighboring countries.
Georgians look much preferable to Azerbaijani colleagues. The minimum salary of the Georgian MPs is 3,790 lari (GEL) (equal to AZN 2,828), and depending on the position, the MP salary along with the surcharge increases from GEL 3,905 (AZN 2,707) to GEL 5,905 (AZN 4,094).
The MPs of Armenia who receive an average of 345,000 dram (AZN 1,225) a month look sad. But the MPs skipping sessions are charged 30,000 drams (AZN 105) for each day. In Azerbaijan, MPs may skip sessions painlessly for their pockets.
This year, the MPs of Ukraine have also raised their salaries, but they have not reached the level of their Azerbaijani counterparts. So the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada has appointed for himself a salary of 18,528 hryvnia (UAH) (AZN 1,202), the first deputy speaker is paid UAH 17,756 (AZN 1,152), the deputy speaker is paid UAH 16,984 (AZN 1,102), and a member of a committee is paid UAH 15,440 (AZN 1,002). These are salaries without surcharges and premiums.
The Russian MPs proved to be the most prosperous. The official salary of the State Duma members is about 400 thousand rubles a month (AZN 10,720). In addition, there are quarterly incentives for the work done. According to various sources, this figure varies from 60 to 81 thousand rubles (AZN 1,608-2,171).
The salary of the State Duma members in Russia is 13 times higher than the average salary of ordinary Russians. It is noteworthy that in Germany this figure varies by a factor of two, while in the USA the salary of an MP is 3 times higher than the national average.
Each member of the US Congress receives a salary of $ 174 thousand per year. Under President Obama, parliamentarians constantly complained about their scanty salaries: this money, they said, cannot be "worthy" to live in the capital. -0-
