Azimov: Azerbaijan wants a special relationship with the EU
The decision on the participation of Azerbaijan in the summit on "Eastern Partnership " of the EU will be made at the highest level, reporters were told on Monday by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Araz Azimov, who answered the question whether Azerbaijan will take part in the Vilnius summit of "Eastern Partnership" at the end of November.
He made ??it clear that Azerbaijan prefers individual relations rather than multilateral partnership with the EU.
"We believe that our relations with the European Union should not be based on some common regional approach. The "Eastern Partnership" is a very vague and unformed geographic, political and economic framework. Simply including us among the other states formed on the territory of the defunct Soviet Union was entirely incorrect.
In this group there are countries with different starting points, different aspirations, opportunities and resources. Therefore, it was not quite correct to include us in any common frame," said Azimov.
According to him, the official Baku expected "special" relationship from the EU.
One example of this attitude Azimov called a memorandum on strategic partnership in the energy field.
According to him, this experience could be issued "on a broader scope, including both the economy and transit and transport cooperation, cultural and information space."
In the 20 years of its independence, Azerbaijan has not made ??hasty steps and did not take action for the sake of political fashion.
"We have always maintained a particular performance which was the result of a single step," said Azimov.
Note that many civil society activists believe that Baku seeks to build relationships with the EU based exclusively on energy and security, eliminating the issues of democracy and human rights. -06D-
