Baku and Yerevan announce exchange by prisoners of war
Baku/07.12.23/Turan: Baku and Yerevan have announced on the evening of December 7 about the exchange of prisoners of war. Armenia releases two Azerbaijani military personnel, and Azerbaijan releases 32 Armenian servicemen.
In a joint statement, the administration of the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia said that both sides share the opinion that there is a historic opportunity to achieve the long-awaited peace in the region.
"Both countries reaffirm their intention to normalize relations and reach a peace treaty based on respect for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As a result of negotiations between the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, an agreement was reached to take tangible steps to strengthen confidence between the two countries.
Guided by the principles of humanism and as a gesture of goodwill, the Republic of Azerbaijan releases 32 Armenian servicemen.
In turn, the Republic of Armenia, guided by the principles of humanism and as a gesture of goodwill, releases 2 Azerbaijani servicemen.
As a good gesture, the Republic of Armenia withdraws its candidacy for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention (COP-29) on Climate Change in support of the candidacy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia hope that other countries of the Eastern European Group will also support Azerbaijan's candidacy.
As a good gesture, the Republic of Azerbaijan supports the candidacy of the Republic of Armenia from the Eastern European Group for membership in the COP Bureau.
The Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia will continue negotiations on the implementation of additional confidence-building measures in the near future, and call on the international community to support their efforts, which will contribute to the establishment of mutual trust between the two countries and have a positive impact on the entire South Caucasus region," the statement reads.-0-
