Baku demands the extradition of Armenian soldiers who wounded an Azerbaijani soldier
Baku/27.08.21/Turan: The Azerbaijani side refused to negotiate with the Armenian side on unblocking the Goris-Kapan inter-regional and interstate road (it leads to the border with Iran). Azerbaijanis are in contact with the Russian military, Sputnik Armenia reports.
The agency notes that Baku's refusal to negotiate with the Armenian side on unblocking sections of the Goris-Kapan road in the Syunik region was due to the demands arising from the injury of a serviceman of the Azerbaijani armed forces.
On August 25, the State Border Service of Azerbaijan reported the injury of a serviceman Ruslan Shiraliyev, "serving in the territory of a special border unit "Gubadly". Baku claims that the Azerbaijani soldier was attacked by two Armenian soldiers and wounded him in the chest with a bayonet. The State Border Service of Azerbaijan threatened to give "an adequate response to the provocation".
As a source told Sputnik Armenia, initially the Azerbaijani side insisted on the extradition of "the perpetrators of the incident due to the injury of their serviceman" for investigation.
This, obviously, was the reason why Azerbaijanis refused to contact with the Armenian side and negotiate with the Russian military only.
The position of the Azerbaijanis is based on the logic that their serviceman was "wounded on their own territory", and they take this as a diversion. According to the Sputnik Armenia source, the contacts are accompanied by a strong emotional intensity. Now the main task is to come up with a solution to satisfy both sides.
Everything is going to the point that representatives of the investigative services of Armenia and Azerbaijan should join the situation. This is the starting point in the negotiations following which it will be possible to reach an agreement on opening the traffic on the currently blocked sections of the road, the source said.
It should be remembered that the traffic on the Karmrakar-Shurnukh section of the Kapan-Goris highway was blocked on August 25 . Vehicles located nearby were evacuated, and on August 26, the Azerbaijani military blocked the Goris-Vorotan road section.—0—
