Baku keeps silent on accusations by Yerevan of Azerbaijani Armed Forces advancing in Syunik
Baku/13.05.21/Turan: The Azerbaijani State Border Service made no statement yesterday and today about the situation on the border of Lachin district with Syunik region of Armenia. Attempts by Turan to reach the phone numbers listed on the SBS website were unsuccessful.
We should remind that late in the evening of May 12, the head of the Armenian government, Nikol Pashinyan, convened the Security Council, where he announced that the Azerbaijani forces had crossed the Armenian state border on May 12 to a depth of 3.5 kilometers.
This is an encroachment into Armenian territory. The Armenian Armed Forces have taken necessary measures, but they are trying to justify their actions with maps, claiming it is their territory, Pashinyan said. He said Yervan would resolve the issue through negotiations.
On 13 May, military negotiations between the two sides take place in the area of the disputed Lake Sevlich (Garagel). According to Deputy Mayor Goris Menua Hovsepian Lake Sevlich remains under the control of Azerbaijani forces and negotiations have yielded no results.
The lack of results was also announced by PM Pashinyan during a morning government meeting on 13 May. According to him, the confrontation has not turned into a military escalation, there are no shootings or skirmishes. He called the Azerbaijani side's actions a "pre-planned provocation. -0-
