Bayramov and Abdollahian discussed problems in Azerbaijani-Iranian relations
Baku/08.06.23/Turan: The Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran - Jeyhun Bayramov and Hussein Amir Abdollahian discussed "some existing problems" in bilateral relations and "ways to solve them" in a telephone conversation on June 8.
"An agreement was expressed to continue negotiations and mutual contacts between the relevant structures of the two countries," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
The ministers also exchanged views on a number of regional issues of mutual interest.
Relations between Azerbaijan and Iran began to deteriorate after the 2020 Karabakh war due to the emergence of a new geopolitical reality in the region.
On January 27 of this year, an armed attack was carried out on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran, as a result of which a security officer was killed and another was wounded. After that, Azerbaijan evacuated the entire staff of the embassy.
In early April, Baku declared 4 employees of the Iranian embassy persona non grata.
In response, Tehran took a similar step against 4 Azerbaijani diplomats.
Azerbaijan also announced the exposure of several groups of Iranian spies.
However, recently the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister reported on proposals coming from Iran regarding the normalization of relations. -06V-
