Bayramov called Lavrov on the eve of the meeting of the UN Security Council /UPDATED/
Baku/15.08.23/Turan: On August 15, at the initiative of the Azerbaijani side, a telephone conversation took place between the foreign ministers of Russia and Azerbaijan, the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“An exchange of views was held on the most relevant international and regional agenda. Particular emphasis was placed on the need for the practical implementation of steps aimed at the speedy de-escalation of the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh, including the unblocking of humanitarian routes, including the Lachin corridor.
The non-alternativeness of the implementation of the entire complex of tripartite agreements between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia was emphasized to achieve a sustainable normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan.
The ministers expressed a common opinion about the counter productiveness of attempts to replace specific work in this area with political propaganda actions,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
It should be noted that a meeting of the UN Security Council is scheduled for August 16 in New York. On the complaint of Armenia, the situation in the Lachin corridor will be discussed.
In December 2022, this issue was also submitted to the Security Council meeting at the suggestion of France. However, the attempt to push through the anti-Azerbaijani statement failed.
In turn, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said that during the conversation, issues of bilateral relations, the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the situation in the region were discussed.
Bayramov noted that the activation of "military-political provocations" of Armenia against Azerbaijan dealt a serious blow to the process of normalizing relations between the two countries.
Speculating on the slogans of a humanitarian catastrophe and blockade, Armenia violates the agreements reached earlier on the use of the Lachin road and "other alternative routes", hinders the satisfaction of the needs of the Armenian population of Karabakh and hinders the peace process, Bayramov said.
Sergey Lavrov noted the importance of fulfilling the obligations under the tripartite statement of November 10, 2020.-0-
