Border Guard Wounded in Shootout with Smugglers
Baku / 07.28.19 / Turan: In the evening of July 27, at about 10:45 pm, an attempt of smugglers from Iran to penetrate into the territory of Azerbaijan was prevented. The incident took place in the service area of the border guard unit Horadiz of the State Border Service near the village of Ahmedalilar, Fizuli district.
The border patrol discovered the movement of armed men from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Violators of the border did not obey the legitimate demands of the border guards and used weapons against them. During the shootout, an Azerbaijani border guard was wounded in the shoulder. The soldier was immediately hospitalized and operated on. Currently, his condition is assessed as satisfactory.
The trespassers, who failed to cross the state border with drugs, fled back. Drugs were found at the scene, with a total weight of 5 kg 350 grams. Together with representatives of the border authorities, an inspection of the scene was carried out.
The Iranian side was shown the discovered drugs and other connected items.
The Azerbaijani side demanded finding the border trespassers and bringing them to criminal liability. A criminal case has been initiated. -06D--

Adalyat Verdiyev, the head of the civil defense staff at the public legal entity Center for Public Health and Reform under the Ministry of Health, and a military expert, has been arrested. On November 22, during a media tour to the liberated territories, Verdiyev filmed and published information and images on his social media accounts revealing Azerbaijani Armed Forces' combat positions in the heights, deployment sites, coordinates, and operational conditions of the border troops.
