Boston mayor discriminates Azerbaijani-Americans through Armenian lobby pressure
Baku/16.03.21/Turan: New England Azerbaijani Americans have gathered in front of the State House to protest blatant discrimination by the Boston mayor Marty Walsh’s office. Honoring Khojaly Commemoration Day, an internationally recognized war crime, by issuing a proclamation then rescinding it due to pressure from Armenian lobby groups, has angered many Azerbaijani-Americans.
Mayor Walsh’s office failed to properly communicate with the Azerbaijani-American community in a timely manner, resulting in a one-sided and discriminatory decision.
The unfair and preferential treatment of Armenian special interest lobby groups shown by Mayor Walsh’s actions has created major discontent among the Azerbaijani community as he not only denied a historical fact of human rights tragedy, but marginalized minority Azerbaijani-American voices yet again by signaling a preferential decision blatantly picking sides.
The protesters held banners urging Mayor Walsh to read up on the well-documented coverage of Khojaly Massacre by the Boston Globe, Washington Post, New York Times, Newsweek, The Independent, and The Guardian on Khojaly Massacre. They also demanded equal rights and representation of their community interests regardless of its size and financial lobbying power. -0-
