Chairman of Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers calls for opening of 'Lachin corridor'
Baku/19.01.23/Turan: The chairman of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, Icelandic Foreign Minister Thordis Gilfadottir, has expressed "concern at the increasingly difficult humanitarian situation of people living in Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of the month-long blockade of the Lachin corridor".
"I call on the relevant authorities to quickly restore freedom of movement along the corridor in order to avoid further deterioration of the situation. I call on all parties concerned to resolve their problems through dialogue, and remain ready to contribute to their efforts in this regard," Guilfadottir said in a statement released by the CoE press office.
The day before the European Parliament also called for the "unblocking" of the Lachin road.
Recall that from 12 December there has been a picket of Azerbaijani activists on the Lachin road, who demand to perform environmental monitoring of the precious and nonferrous metal deposits developed by the separatists, and to stop illegal mining. At the same time, the Azerbaijani side says the road is open for the transport of civilian and humanitarian goods. Every day dozens of Russian peacekeeping and Red Cross vehicles, as well as ambulances travel along it in both directions. -16В-
