Council of Europe and European Union to present projects for journalists, judiciary, administration and legal professionals in Azerbaijan
On Tuesday, 27 October, the Council of Europe and European Union will present to the media in Baku a series of new projects for Eastern Partnership countries, including Azerbaijan. The four projects to be carried out in Azerbaijan under the Programmatic Cooperation Framework in 2015-2017 focus on improving media freedom and freedom of expression, strengthening capacities to fight and prevent corruption in the administration, increasing the role and capacity of the Academy of Justice, training Judges as well as a specific project to improve the efficiency and quality of judicial services in Azerbaijan. The 4.7 million euro projects are funded by the EU and the Council of Europe, and are implemented by the Council of Europe. In addition to these country-specific projects, Azerbaijan also participates in 14 regional initiatives covering several countries. Dragana Filipovic, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Baku; Ambassador Malena Mard, Head of European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Habib Mikayilli, PCF National Coordinator from Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Arkadi Sytine, Coordinator for the Council of Europe of the Programmatic Cooperation Framework; will present the projects. -06D-

On November 28, the Tbilisi City Court ruled to extradite Afgan Sadigov, the head of the website Azel.TV, to Azerbaijan. This was reported by his wife Sevinj Sadigova. The defense will appeal the court's decision.

On November 27, an online hearing took place at the Khatai District Court regarding a petition from the defense for the release of Alaskar Mammadli, the founder of Toplum TV, under house arrest. Mammadli has been in custody at Baku’s Detention Center No. 1. The court denied the petition, Mammadli's brother, Nasimi Mammadli.

On November 28, another hearing took place in the case of public activist Ilhamiz Guliyev. During the proceedings, the court reviewed a response from the 28th Police Station of the Yasamal District in Baku. At the previous hearing, the defense had requested that the court obtain footage from the surveillance cameras at this police station, where Guliyev was taken on December 4 of last year. However, the police response stated that the video footage had not been preserved.
