Dashgyn Agalarly Released on Bail
Baku / 08.01.20 / Turan: An Azerbaijani political emigrant Dashgyn Agalarly detained on January 6 in the Polish city of Gdansk was released on bail on Wednesday by a decision of the regional court. He announced this himself.
His release from custody was made possible after the intervention of Norwegian and Polish human rights defenders and the Norwegian Embassy.
According to Agalarly, while the Polish law enforcement authorities will investigate with the extradition request of Azerbaijan, he should be in Warsaw.
“The procedure continues and for the period of the investigation I must stay in Warsaw, where I am being taken from Gdansk, accompanied by the police. To stop the persecution of me, I must submit to the court evidence that the criminal case against me in Azerbaijan is far-fetched and politically motivated,” Agalarly told Turan in the evening on January 8.
Dashgyn Agalarly actively participated in the national movement of Azerbaijan in the late 1989 and early 1990s. In 1992-93, he was a member of the government of the Popular Front. Subsequently, he was a member of the Musavat party. In 2013, Agalarly joined the National Council of Democratic Forces. Later he moved to Turkey. However, the Turkish authorities expelled him to Georgia, where he was also persecuted for supporting other political emigrants at the request of Azerbaijan.
At the end of 2017, he left Georgia and received asylum in Norway. On January 6, he was detained in Gdansk when, after traveling to European countries, he was returning to Norway.
In recent years, he collaborates with the emigrant television channel Turan TV. —21D06-

We deeply regret that President of the country which is officially a “strategic partner” of Azerbaijan has participated in the unacceptable diplomatic “binocular show” leading to the aggravation of relations between Azerbaijan and Poland,”" reads the statement on the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ account on X (formerly Twitter).
