Delayed Karabakh Peace Talks To Kick Off In Arlington Tomorrow
Washington D.C./26.06.23/Turan: The top diplomats from Azerbaijan and Armenia are poised to kick off a fresh round of peace negotiations tomorrow, June 27, to try to bridge their divides and to conclude a durable peace agreement, TURAN's Washington correspondent has learned from two diplomatic sources.
The talks, initially meant to start two weeks ago, were delayed because of a scheduling conflict, the sources mentioned. "There was no other reason - other than the scheduling issues," one diplomat insisted.
This will be the second round of peace talks at the invitation of Secretary of State Antony Blinken in less than two months.
Foreign Ministers Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan are expected to resume their closed-door discussions "far from the spotlight", as one of the sources put it — just like the last time, at the State Department’s George Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington.
This week's talks might last for several days, as late as Thursday, June 29th, another source mentioned.
The ministers are also expected to meet with White House' National Security Council officials during their stay in Washington, as TURAN has learned.
