Deputies Compete in Criticizing Europe

The Parliament is continuing heated debatedevoted to criticism of the European Parliament resolution of 10 September.

Speaker Oktay Asadov continued to scold the resolution calling on the Europeans not to politicize the murder of the journalist Rasim Aliyev. "To represent a domestic murder as a political case is unfair. The mention of such facts in the resolution speaks about its partiality," said Asadov.

Next, Asadov blamed the head person of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, accusing him of collaboration with "corrupt lobbyists."

Then he switched on the topic of refugees in Europe, accusing the Europeans of callousness. "In Europe there are 7 million sq. kilometers of territory and a population of one billion, and they cannot take 300-400 thousand people. Azerbaijan, which has 20% of the territory occupied, received more than 1 million refugees ... I cannot look at it, they treat the refugees inhumanely. Is that the European values?" Asadov outraged and handed the baton to his deputy Ziyafat Askerov.

The Vice Speaker was more concise and categorical: "Who are you, Mr. Schultz? Refrain from Azerbaijan!" he said.

Further deputies Vahid Ahmedov, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Sabir Rustamkhanli, Siyavush Novruzov and others continued their criticism of the EP resolution. -16D-

«We must make the final decision about the participation of Azerbaijan in the international organizations. I think we should go to the Cabinet of Ministers to reconsider our participation in the program Eastern Partnership of the EU." This was announced at today's extraordinary session of the Azerbaijani Parliament by its Speaker Oktay Asadov.

He believes that the European Parliament, taking a "biased resolution against Azerbaijan, violates the rules of conduct."

According to the Speaker, the adoption of such resolutions aimed at isolating Azerbaijan from Europe also is to "force" Azerbaijan to take certain "conditions" in the Karabakh issue, Asadov said, without explaining what these terms are and why the criticism of human rights violations is linked to the Karabakh conflict.

Recall that the extraordinary meeting of the Milli Majlis was convened specifically to answer the European Parliament's resolution of 10 September. This resolution expressed the demand to release political prisoners and to impose sanctions against officials and judges persecuting political activists. -16D04-
