Deputy Chairman of Ruling Party Accused Colleagues of Financing Opposition
Baku / 09.09.19 / Turan: Board members of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party finance the opposition. Such a sensational statement last Friday was made by the Deputy Chairman of this party Siyavush Novruzov.
Speaking at a meeting of the party"s regional leaders, Novruzov said some Board members who had previously worked as ministers for many years have now fled abroad and are funding the opposition. "We have specific lists," he said, without giving specific names.
It is noteworthy that a number of pro-government media published the speech of Novruzov, but the text of the speech has not appeared on the website of the New Azerbaijan Party itself.
Turan"s attempts to contact Novruzov and get a comment did not produce any results. Other Board members also declined to comment.
However, three former ministers - of Education, Misir Mardanov, of Ecology, Huseyngulu Bagirov, and of Transport, Ziya Mammadov, made statements refuting their involvement in financing the opposition.
It is noteworthy that until now the ruling party and the authorities as a whole have accused the West of financing the opposition in order to overthrow the ruling regime. -03B-
