Direct flights from Baku to the USA will begin till the end of 2014
The U.S. Ambassador Richard Morningstar has visited the state company AZAL, where he discussed issues relating to the opening of direct flights between the USA and Azerbaijan.
President of "AZAL", Jahangir Askerov, welcomed the provision of a First degree security certificate from the American Federal Aviation Administration. This became possible due to renovation of the fleet, the acquisition of new equipment, navigation systems and infrastructure improvements.
"After completing a series of protocol procedures, AZAL will start direct flights to the USA," Askerov said.
In turn, Richard Morningstar welcomed this achievement, and wished AZAL success in the U.S. market.
The security certificate was given to AZAL on March 7 this year after the American side held two audits in Azerbaijan.
In recent years, AZAL seriously updated its fleet buying several new aircrafts, "Airbus" and "Boeing”. In addition, Baku International Airport has significantly expanded, and the construction of a new international terminal, the largest in region, is almost completed. -03D-

The coldness in relations between Baku and Moscow, which arose after the crash of a civilian airplane, seems to be growing. Baku increasingly and more often makes it clear to Moscow that it will not allow the death of the plane and its citizens to be hushed up.
