During the occupation, the Armenians stored shells with white phosphorus in Jabrayil
Baku/10.07.21 / Turan: Since July 3, 2021, the Agency for Mine Clearance of the Territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) has been conducting an operation to clean up an ammunition depot on the territory of the Jabrayil region.
During the operation, 157 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 1,185 cartridges of various calibers, 5 kg of explosives and 17 pieces of 82-mm mortar shells containing white phosphorus were found, the Agency statement said.
The press release recalls that " the use of white phosphorus ammunition by the Armenian armed forces against the civilian population and settlements was confirmed by facts during the April 2016 fighting and the 44-day Patriotic War."
"The mortar shells with white phosphorus reaffirm Armenia's hostile intentions against the civilian population," the report says.
The firing of weapons with white phosphorus at the civilian population or civilian objects, forests or other agricultural land is prohibited by international conventions.
White phosphorus ignites spontaneously when it comes into contact with air. At the same time, the burning temperature exceeds 1200°C which leads to deep, long-healing wounds. "The smoke from the ignition of white phosphorus irritates the respiratory tract, and the absorption of a large amount of this smoke in a confined space can lead to severe poisoning and death," ANAMA said in a statement. - 06D-
