DWM Calls on Authorities to Release Tofig Yagubl
Baku /24.03.20 / Turan: The Democracy and Welfare Movement (DWM) condemned the authorities for the arrest of Tofig Yagublu, a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces, on charges of hooliganism.
The statement points to the “non-coincidence” of this arrest, which followed a few days after the appeal of President Ilham Aliyev to the people, where he threatened the opposition. This statement revealed the essence of the “reforms” and the “dialogue initiative” with the opposition, which the authorities are ranting about.
While in civilized countries all efforts are directed at combating the global pandemic, the Azerbaijani authorities, having arrested Tofig Yagublu, demonstrate their intentions to crack down on the opposition. While in many countries prisoners are released from prisons in connection with the pandemic, then in Azerbaijan the authorities are hunting the opposition.
DWM expresses concern for the fate of Yagublu, given his health problems, which, against the backdrop of the Corona Virus pandemic, could endanger his life. DWM calls for an end to the fabricated criminal case and the immediate release of the prisoner.
DWM was created in 2015. The chairman of the organization is the economic expert Gubad Ibadoglu. —06D-
