ECHR begins communication on the complaints of the Nardaran citizens
Baku/02.05.18/Turan: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) started communication on the case of the convicted under the Nardaran events of 2015. The talk is about the complaints of the leader of the movement "Muslim Unity". Tale Bagirzade, and Zakir Mustafayev, Abbas Huseynov, Shamil Abdulaliyev, Alibala Veliyev, Rasim Jebrailov, Ramin Yaryev, Abbas Guliyev and Ali Nuriyev, convicted along with him.
The complaint relates to torture, which the applicants were subjected to at the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Local courts rejected their complaints of torture.
The applicants raise the issue of violation of their rights under the Article 3 (prohibition of torture), 13 (right to an effective remedy) and 6 (right to a fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The ECHR sent questions to the government of Azerbaijan, to which the authorities must respond within three months. The ECHR also started communications also for journalists: Fikrat Ibishbeyli (Faramazoglu) and Elchin Hasanov, lawyer Aslan Ismayilov, activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev.
They ask to recognize the violation of their rights under the Article 10 (freedom of expression) and 34 (right of individual petition) European Convention.-16D06-
