ECHR takes "temporary measures" due to Gubad Ibadoglu' case
Baku/05.09.23/Turan: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), in line with Regulation 39 of the Rules of Court, has taken temporary interim measures in the case of Azerbaijani oppositionist and economist Gubad Ibadoglu.
The ECHR's decision was adopted on the basis of the defense's appeal to refuse to transfer Gubad Ibadoglu to house arrest due to a sharp deterioration in his health, his brother Galib Bayramov said.
The ECHR ordered the Azerbaijani government to take urgent measures to ensure the protection of Ibadoglu's health and inform the Strasbourg Court about this.
*On July 24, the Narimanov District Court of Baku arrested Gubad Ibadoglu for 3 months and 26 days on charges of making counterfeit money. The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry said that Ibadoglu is associated with supporters of Fethullah Gulen, accused of an attempted coup in 2016 in Turkey. On August 25, he was charged with another accusation of "manufacturing, storing or distributing religious extremist materials."
Gubad Ibadoglu denies the accusations, considering them absurd. Many international organizations and officials have called on official Baku to immediately release the politician. -16B-
