ECHR to Announce Decisions on Four Cases from Azerbaijan
Baku/12.02.21/Turan: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on February 18 will announce its decisions on 4 complaints sent from Azerbaijan. Lawyer Khalid Agaliyev told Turan about this.
According to him, two of the complaints came from NIDA civil movement activists Mammad Azizov and Shahin Novruzlu. Complaints are related to preliminary pre-trial detention and its extension. They ask to recognize the violation of their rights to freedom and the political motives behind their persecution.
On May 6, 2014, the Baku Grave Crimes Court sentenced 8 NIDA activists to various prison sentences ranging from 6 to 8 years on charges of organizing mass disorder, arms and drug trafficking.
Mammadov and Novruzlu were pardoned by presidential decree in 2016. Amnesty International called the activists “prisoners of conscience”.
Another decision to be announced by the ECHR on February 18 concerns the violation of property rights of 18 residents of the Sabunchu region.
In addition, citizen Ilgar Feyzov appealed against his unlawful detention for several days without a court order. — 06D-
