Fazil Gasimov was placed in a prison hospital on the 43rd day of his hunger strike
The health of economist Fazil Gasimov, who is on hunger strike for the 43rd day, has deteriorated sharply. On the night of July 26, he was transferred from the Baku pre-trial detention center-1 to a medical institution of the Penitentiary Service, the economist's brother Nazim Gasimov told Turan.
"Fazil's health is very serious. He is completely exhausted, he cannot stand on his feet, but he does not stop his hunger strike. He takes only water, refuses food and medicines," Nazim Gasimov said on July 26 after meeting with his brother at a medical institution.
Earlier, lawyer Rovshan Rahimov said that the preliminary investigation into the case of Fazil Gasimov has been completed and the defense is getting acquainted with the case materials. At the same time, the Gasimov case was separated from the case of the politician and economist Gubad Ibadoglu.
* Fazil Gasimov was detained in Türkiye on August 7, 2023, brought to Azerbaijan and charged under Article 204.3.1 (manufacture, purchase or sale of counterfeit money as part of an organized group) of the Criminal Code. The investigation claims that he handed over fake money to opposition politician Gubad Ibadoglu, who was later arrested.
Recently, Gasimov, in his appeal to the Prosecutor General, the Ombudswoman, the local and international community, stated that he gave these statements under torture. He retracted these statements, saying that he had not given Ibadoglu counterfeit money, and had never had discussions with him on FETO (the movement of preacher Fethullah Gulen, recognized in Türkiye as a terrorist organization).
Since June 14, Gasimov has been on a hunger strike to protest against unjustified criminal prosecution and torture at the beginning of the investigation.
