Baku / 31.07.20 / Turan: Today, the Gurban Bayram holiday (Feast of Sacrifice) is celebrated in Muslim countries, including Azerbaijan.

This year, the Feast of Sacrifice is held in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There will be no holiday prayers in mosques to prevent the possibility of infection of believers with the virus.

Along with this, on holidays, the mass sale and cutting of sacrificial animals outside the designated areas is prohibited, and an online fair for the sale of sacrificial sheep has been organized.

Those who wish to order the sacrificial sheep online by going to the website www.qurbanliq.kendden.az can enter the online queue until 00:00 on 31 July.

The sacrifice of sheep is an integral part of the pilgrimage to Mecca. However, all over the world, Muslims perform sacrifices in order to take part in the ritual, which is a godly deed.

In 2020, the pilgrimage to Mecca was canceled due to the pandemic and is carried out exclusively in compliance with certain rules for citizens and residents of Saudi Arabia.

This year, the Feast of Sacrifice is celebrated in Azerbaijan from July 31 to August 3.

The Feast of Sacrifice is one of the official public holidays and has been celebrated since 1992.

According to the Qur'an, the archangel Gabriel appeared to the prophet Abraham in a dream and gave him a commandment from Allah to sacrifice his only son Ismail.

Ibrahim went to the valley of Mina to the place where now stands Mecca. His son, who knew about this, did not resist because he was obedient to the Father and God. However, it was a test. God rewarded Abraham for his loyalty and allowed him to sacrifice a sheep.—0—
