Fifteen More Defendants of "Karabakh Action" Released
Baku / 07.12.20 / Turan: Fifteen people arrested in connection with the rally in support of the army in Baku in July this year have been released under house arrest. This decision was made on December 7 by the Sabail district court of Baku, satisfying the proposal of the prosecutor's office.
The representative of the prosecutor's office asked to take into account the marital status of the arrested, the presence of many minor children, charges against them of less serious crimes, and so on.
The defendants themselves joined the online trial from the Baku Detention Center.
Three out of 15 people released under house arrest are activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA). These are Ramid Nagiyev, an employee of the organizational department of the party, Elnur Hasanov, chairman of the Garadagh regional branch of the party, and Gunduz Mirzaev, a member of the Binagadi branch. In addition, among the released are former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Siyavush Mustafayev and a member of the Movement for Democracy and Prosperity of Azerbaijan Parvin Chobanov.
In total, 37 people are involved in this criminal case, including 36 who were arrested.
However, on November 16, 21 of them were placed under house arrest.
Among those released under house arrest at that time were 12 PFPA functionaries, including members of the party presidium Fuad Gahramanli, Mamed Ibrahim and Asif Yusifli.
Thus, in this case, no one remains in custody.
All defendants were charged under Articles 127 (intentional infliction of minor bodily harm), 186 (damage or destruction of other people's property), 233 (violation of public order) and 315 (use of force against a police officer) of the Criminal Code. These articles provide for imprisonment for up to 7 years.
Although the materials of the criminal case were sent to the court at the end of September, the trial has not yet taken place. A preliminary court hearing was scheduled for October 27, but was later postponed. — 06D-
