Fire at Zaporizhzhya NPP extinguished
Baku/04.03.22/Turan: After a night-time shelling of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant by Russian troops, a fire broke out in the administrative building at the site.
By the morning, Ukrainian firefighters had halted the spread of the fire, and at 6:20 the fire was extinguished.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russian tanks attempted to enter the city and take control over the nuclear power plant. According to some reports, they managed to occupy a part of the plant. At the same time, the nuclear units were not damaged.
Ukrainian President Zelensky demanded that Western leaders intervene and prevent "a nuclear tragedy and the destruction of Europe".
The attack on the nuclear plant triggered strong reactions from leaders in many countries who demanded that Moscow stop shelling the plant and prevent a repeat of the Chernobyl tragedy. -02D-
