Following the talks in Istanbul, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the cessation of the attack on Kiev
Baku/29.03.22/Turan: Negotiations between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations which lasted four hours ion Istanbulon Tuesday afternoon, ended. A member of the Ukrainian delegation Oleksandr Chaly told journalists that eight countries, including Turkey, can act as guarantors of Ukraine's security.
Before the talks, it was announced that the Russian side had abandoned the demands of "denazification of Ukraine", "disarmament" and "legal protection of the Russian language in Ukraine." The Ukrainian side stated that the state would not compromise on people, territory and sovereignty.
Another member of the Ukrainian delegation, David Arakhamia, voiced Kiev’s conditions for security guarantees as follows: “Ukraine wants to see the countries of the UN Security Council as guarantors, including Great Britain, China, the USA, France, Turkey, Germany, Poland and Israel. Other countries will also be able to join the treaty if they wish,” he explained. At the same time, Ukraine is ready for neutrality and without a nuclear status if a peace treaty is agreed.
In turn, the head of the Russian delegation Medinsky said that the negotiations were constructive. “Russia is taking two steps towards Ukraine for de-escalation,” he said, without specifying which ones.
He also said that the Ukrainian side has formulated its position and proposals, which will be studied and brought to the attention of the country's leadership. If a compromise is found, it is possible to make peace, Medinsky said vaguely.
In turn, the Russian Ministry of Defense made a sensational statement that drastically reduces military activity in the Kiev and Chernigov directions. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Alexander Fomin at the end of the talks in Istanbul.
"Due to the fact that negotiations on the preparation of the Treaty on the Neutrality and Non-Nuclear Status of Ukraine, as well as on the provision of security guarantees to Ukraine, are moving into practice, taking into account the principles discussed during today's meeting, by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in order to increase mutual trust and create the necessary conditions for further negotiations and achievement of the ultimate goal - the approval and signing of the above agreement - a decision was made to radically, at times, reduce military activity in the Kiev and Chernigov directions," TACC quoted Fomin.
