Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia on Outcome of Meeting in Washington
Baku / 06.21.19 / Turan: The positions of the parties have not changed, and everyone sees a settlement in his own way - such a conclusion can be drawn from the comments of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia after their yesterday meeting in Washington.
The talks were of a "deep and intensive" character, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said after the 3-hour meeting.
He called unflattering recent cases of exacerbation of the situation on the contact line, which, however, will not affect the course of negotiations.
"Serious differences between us persist. We are aware of the proposals put forward, they are the same, and we have been discussing these proposals for 15 years. It is necessary to show more political will," said Mammadyarov in an interview with journalists.
He called the "return of the military to the barracks" the main element in restoring confidence between the parties. In addition, efforts should be made to prepare the population of the parties for peace.
In turn, Armenian Foreign Minister Zahrab Mnatsakanyan noted the negative impact of the escalation of the situation on the contact line on the course of negotiations. According to him, the main priority for Armenia remains the issue of security of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Our position has not changed, it could not change. Nagorno-Karabakh is an interested party and a subject of all processes. If our desire to promote negotiations is serious, then a sense of stability must remain. We stated this quite clearly," said Mnatsakanyan. -02D-
