Former army corps commander arrested in Armenia
Baku/17.12.22 / Turan: The former commander of the Second Army Corps, the former head of the intelligence department of the Armenian General Staff, Major General Arayik Harutyunyan, was arrested. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia on Saturday, citing law enforcement sources.
According to the agency, Harutyunyan was arrested on Thursday, December 15.
The criminal case was reported on December 14, but the name of the accused, as well as his position, were not indicated in the official release of the prosecutor's office.
The prosecutor’s office reported that a criminal case had been opened against the commanders of one of the military units, due to whose negligence “the Armenian Armed Forces were unable to prevent the attack of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on May 12, 2021, which freely entered the Gegharkunik region in the direction of the villages of Verin Shorzha, Kut and Norabak.”
Harutyunyan is accused of not organizing defense in this direction.
Prior to that, Harutyunyan was the head of the Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff. -0-
