Former Attorney General Threatened for Communication with the Opposition
Threatening phone calls were received by the former Attorney General, Ali Omarov. On May 30 at 18.58 he received a call from the mobile number: 55 237 0202.
According to Ali Omarov, an unidentified police colonel introduced himself and began insulting.
"We will not take into account that you're former attorney general, you, as the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Iskender Hamidov, will be arrested and put on a bag over your head. We will arrest your family and will be attempting to sue members of your family on criminal cases. What were you doing at an opposition rally in Novkhani? Stop all this!" demanded the caller.
Ali Omarov said that in connection with the threats, he sent a telegram to the President of the country and Interior Minister Usubov, called the service 102, and addressed to the Embassy of the United States.
"This is a robbery and the caller must be found and his identity must be verified, and he must be punished," said Ali Omarov.
Turan tried to contact the owner of the telephone that called Ali Omarov, but the number was out of reach.
The Interior Ministry told Turan they do not believe that this could be made by a police officer and promised to investigate the case. -03B04-
