Four Officers of Armed Forces Awarded General Ranks
Baku / 07.12.20 / Turan: On December 7, the head of state signed an order "On awarding the highest military rank Major General" to a number of servicemen of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.
The rank of general was given to colonels: Agamir Sultanov, Anar Kerimov, Namig Islamzadeh, and Zaur Mammadov.
The positions of the officers and their merits were not disclosed. -02D-

Journalist Nargiz Abaslamova, held in Baku's Detention Center No. 1, was subjected to violence by a guard. While passing by the cell of her colleague Sevinj Vagifgizi, Abaslamova tried to greet her, reported on Abzas Media's Facebook page. However, guard Aygul Babaeva forcibly dragged Abaslamova away and deeply scratched the journalist's arm. Abaslamova stated that this is not the first time the mentioned guard has used force and been rude to journalists. A few days ago, Babaeva also used force against Sevinj Vagifgizi.

In 2024, the ECHR made 39 rulings regarding Azerbaijan. In 38 of these, at least one violation of the European Convention on Human Rights was found. Only in one case were no violations identified. On February 4, the ECHR announced two rulings regarding complaints filed by these applicants, as reported by the legal information website aihmaz.org. The applicants contested the violation of their property rights during the demolition of their homes for the construction of the "Winter Park" in central Baku, as well as the failure to provide fair compensation. They also requested that the Strasbourg court recognize violations of their rights to a fair trial, respect for private life, effective legal remedies, the right to submit an individual complaint, and other related rights.
