George Kent: Visit of John Bolton to Caucasus - Signal to Countries of Region
Baku / 03.05.19 / Turan: America has not changed its policy towards the countries of the South Caucasus.
The visit of the National Security Adviser to the region in October last year should not be viewed as a change in this policy. Turan was told by the Assistant Secretary of State George Kent.
This visit was useful for improving US-Azerbaijan relations, as well as relations with other countries in the region. During such a visit, the parties inform each other to better understand the policies of their states. "This is a signal to you that a representative of a world power has come to you and is talking to your government. This is an opportunity to solve some problems, to agree on something. I think John Bolton discussed a number of serious issues, the possibilities of solving some issues and improving relations. This is important because there are many countries in the world and many problems where to go," said Kent.
On the question of Washington"s attitude to regional projects with Iran"s participation, the Assistant Secretary of State said that the United States is against investing in projects in Iran with international sanctions against Tehran. According to him, economically, such projects will not be profitable. -02B-
