Georgia passes to professional army system
Over the next four years Georgia will pass to a system of a professional army, according to an interview of Defense Minister, Irakli Alasania.
"We plan complete transition to a professional army in four years. Gradually the term of military service will be reduced to 12 months, after which we will move completely to a contract system," he said.
The minister said that no one should "forcibly" serve in the army, and in general it should be staffed by people with vocational education. Currently, Georgia has a mixed system of military service, including contracted and conscripts. The present term of conscription is 15 months. -02D-
