Georgian and Azerbaijani Border Guards Suppress Border Incident
Baku / 15.01.20 / Turan: The day before Georgian security forces detained an armed man who had taken their colleague hostage. A case has been opened against the detained Georgian citizen under articles on illegal trafficking in firearms and hostage-taking; he faces up to ten years in prison.
"As a result of the efficient and effective work of the border police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the situation was discharged in a timely manner. By now, the incident has been completely exhausted," the Caucasian Knot quotes the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The incident occurred on an uncoordinated section of the border with Azerbaijan, the report says. The agency thanked the Azerbaijani colleagues for effective cooperation.
A border guard was taken hostage, the Interior Ministry specified. "By threatening to use firearms and a hand grenade, a Georgian citizen forced the Georgian border guard to move towards an uncoordinated section of the border. During the incident, he shot several times with a firearm," the police said. —06D-

On Monday, the Baku Appeals Court considered the appeal of Talysh researcher Iqbal Abilov against the extension of his detention for another four months. The defense argued that the decision to extend Abilov's detention was unjustified, lawyer Fariz Namazly told reporters.
