Gubad Ibadoglu is again denied hospitalization
Baku/07.12.23/Turan: The condition of opposition politician and academic economist Gubad Ibadoglu, who has been held in jail for almost 140 days, continues to deteriorate. Irreversible processes are deepening, his brother Ghalib Bayramov told Turan news agency. He suffers from scoliosis, osteophyte, and degenerative changes in the vertebral discs. Due to back pain, he walks with difficulty and with a cane. Despite repeated appeals to the Ministry of Justice, he is not being placed in a prison hospital.
In the pre-trial detention center, Ibadoglu was prescribed 10 sessions of electrophoresis, but this did not have any effect. The pain in his back and in his left leg became unbearable. "Painkillers do not relieve pain and he can sleep no more than two hours a day," the politician's brother continued.
Diabetes mellitus worsened. Before his arrest, Ibadoglu took one Metformin tablet (750 mg) and half a tablet of Glimepride (3 mg) per day. At the same time, he walked at least 10 km. All this made it possible to keep the sugar level normal. In the pre-trial detention center, even after taking insulin, sugar cannot be normalized. Moreover, it caused tachycardia. We are very worried because a rapid pulse increases the risks of aortic dilation and rupture," Bayramov continued. Independent doctors assess the situation as critical.
*On July 24, the Narimanov District Court of Baku arrested Gubad Ibadoglu for 3 months and 26 days on charges of making counterfeit money. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan stated that Ibadoglu is associated with supporters of Fethullah Gulen, accused of an attempted coup in 2016 in Turkey. On August 25, he was charged with "manufacturing, storing or distributing religious extremist materials." On November 16, the court extended Gubad Ibadoglu's arrest for another three months.
Gubad Ibadoglu denies the accusations, considering them absurd. Many international organizations and officials have called on official Baku to immediately release the politician. The European Parliament called for sanctions against Azerbaijani officials because of the persecution of Ibadoglu.—16B-
