Gubad Ibadoglu was not given a cane in jail
Baku/15.12.23/Turan: Arrested oppositionist Gubad Ibadoglu was deprived of the opportunity to use a cane in jail, his brother Ghalib Bayramov said. This happened after he made it public that he could not move on his own.
"Last week, when my brother and I spoke on the phone, he said that he was having serious problems with movement. Therefore, he turned to the head of the medical and sanitary unit of the Baku pre-trial detention center, Rashad Huseynli. He suggested that his brother bring a cane. On December 9, I took medicines and a cane to my brother in jail. This week, on Tuesday, my brother said that the cane had not been handed to him," Bayramov said.
On December 14, Ibadoglu's lawyers met with him and they confirmed that Ibadoglu's cane had not been handed over. "Therefore, we are very worried. They refuse to hospitalize Gubad due to severe back pain. Providing Gubad with a cane will mean that they recognize Gubad's health problems," Bayramov said. The Prison Service could not be reached for comment.
*On July 24, the Narimanov District Court of Baku arrested Gubad Ibadoglu for 3 months and 26 days on charges of making counterfeit money. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan stated that Ibadoglu is associated with supporters of Fethullah Gulen, accused of an attempted coup in 2016 in Turkey.
On August 25, he was charged with another charge of "manufacturing, storing or distributing religious extremist materials." On November 16, the court extended Gubad Ibadoglu's arrest for another three months.
Gubad Ibadoglu denies the accusations, considering them absurd. Many international organizations and officials have called on official Baku to immediately release the politician. The European Parliament called for sanctions against Azerbaijani officials because of the persecution of Ibadoglu.-16В-
