Baku/31.07.23/Turan: The family of opposition politician Gubad Ibadoglu is concerned about his health and the conditions of detention in the Baku pre-trial detention center-1, the brother of the politician Galib Bayramov said.
"The water we sent for him was not taken. Gubad suffers from diabetes and he needs to drink a lot of clean water. Now he has to drink tap water, which is very dirty," Bayramov said. In addition, the cell where he is being held is designed for 2 people, but there are five people. "The air in the cell is very "heavy", and Gubad has high blood pressure. The pre-trial detention center also refused to hand over Gubad a device for measuring blood sugar and measuring blood pressure.
"We are afraid that Gubad will catch some kind of infection. They allow to pass him only 5 kg per week, which is very little, because as a diabetic he needs dietary nutrition," Bayramov noted. Today Ibadoglu was visited by lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova in Baku pre-trial detention center-1; she talked with him for several hours. She informed the family that there are no serious changes in his health yet.
"The lawyer also met with the management of the pre-trial detention center. She was promised that from tomorrow Ibadoglu would be allowed to pass transfers without restrictions, including medicines and water, and problems with the conditions of detention would also be eliminated.
On August 1, Ibadoglu will also be given a meeting with his family according to the schedule," the politician's brother said.
In turn, the public relations department of the Turan Penitentiary Service stated that Ibadoglu is being held in a cell with the conditions provided for in the legislation, which complies with international standards.
"His health is under the control of doctors, blood pressure and blood sugar levels are periodically checked, he is provided with the necessary medicines.
Transfers and medications from the family are accepted and he regularly contacts them by phone. Until today, he has not addressed the management regarding the conditions of detention," the department noted.
On July 31, the Narimanov District Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the complaint of Ibadoglu's wife Irada Bayramova about police violence during detention with her husband.
"Today, on July 31, Irada Bayramova testified at the Narimanov prosecutor's office. In order to establish bodily injuries, she was sent for a forensic medical examination," the politician's brother said.
