H. Hajiyev: Provocation on the border is another act of aggression of Armenia
Baku/12.07.20/Turan: The attack by Armenia on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border the positions of the Armed Forces using artillery mounts is another provocation, said the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan on Foreign Policy Hikmet Hajiyev, commenting on the current provocation of the Armenian Armed Forces in the Tovuz direction. To prevent provocations at the border and eliminate cases that may cause tension, units of the State Border Service were deployed over a significant part of the Azerbaijani border throughout the Gazakh and Tovuz regions. In contrast, the Armenian side is militarizing the state border and deliberately firing at the civilian population, continued Hajiyev. With such adventurous methods, Armenia wants to involve the military-political organizations, which it has joined, in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and evade responsibility for aggression and occupation committed against Azerbaijan.
However, the aggression of Armenia and provocations on the border, which lasted 30 years, contradict the legal documents of military-political structures which the Armenian state joined. Due to the incompetent policy of the Armenian leadership, COVID-19 spread widely, entailing an even greater aggravation of socio-economic problems, and against this background, the Armenian authorities are trying to divert attention from internal problems by exacerbating the military situation.
Armenia grossly violated the UN Charter and other international legal obligations, occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and the seven regions. UN Security Council resolutions NN 822, 853, 874 884 (adopted in 1993) require a complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
The provocation committed by Armenia at the border is another proof of Yerevan’s lack of interest in resolving the conflict through negotiation.
Armenia has committed this provocation while the international community is fighting against COVİD-19. This and the consistent violation of the ceasefire regime by Armenia once again proves that the declaration by the Armenian leadership of supporting the global initiative of the UN General Secretary of the ceasefire is nothing more than hypocrisy. Hajiyev called on the international community to condemn the occupation policy of Armenia against Azerbaijan and its provocation on the border. Responsibility for the current situation rests entirely with Armenia, Hajiyev said. -0-
