Head of Iranian Parliament to visit Baku amid tense relations
Baku/31.10.22/Turan: Chairman of the Iranian Parliament Mohammed Bagir Ghalibaf will visit Azerbaijan, a source in the Iranian embassy told Turan, but did not specify the date of the visit, noting that it would take place in the near future. The previous evening , there was a telephone conversation between the foreign ministers of the two countries.
According to the IRNA news agency, the Iranian Foreign Minister spoke in favor of "solving the Caucasian dispute in the 3 + 3 format." This means that Iran wants to be a participant in the negotiations between Baku and Yerevan. Abdollahian also spoke out against "the presence of foreign powers in the region, which further complicates disputes". "Iran considers the security of Azerbaijan its own security and opposes the deployment of foreign forces in the region, which will jeopardize the security of the region," IRNA quoted Abdollahian.
It should be noted that in recent days, tensions have been observed in bilateral relations caused by Iran's military exercises near the border of Azerbaijan. Against this background, threats against Azerbaijan from Iran became more frequent, and there were also reports about the supply of weapons by Tehran to Armenia. --16D06--
