II International Forum on Intercultural Dialogue

The II International Forum on "Peaceful coexistence in multicultural world" opened in Baku with the participation of representatives from more than 100 countries and international organizations.

Opening the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev said that the forum is a continuation of the Baku process, which began in 2008.

"Baku, as a geographic bridge, at the same time plays the role of a bridge between cultures," said Aliyev.

Azerbaijan has historically been home to peoples living there different faiths, their peaceful cohabitation may serve as an example of tolerance.

However, in today's world there are conflicts based on ethnic or religious intolerance. With the development of intercultural dialogue, conflict resolution can be achieved, he said.

"In this world there is room for every people, every nation. Only would the world and cooperation. Our steps in regional relations aimed at co-operation," said Aliyev.

He also touched on the multiculturalism, noting that statements on the crisis of multiculturalism do not serve the dialogue between cultures and civilizations.

UN Inter-civilization Alliance Secretary Nasser Abdulaziz Al-Nasser read the welcome message from the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to forum members. The General Directors of UNESCO and ISESCO, Irina Bokova and Abdulaziz Othman Al-Twaijri also spoke at the forum.

The forum includes activities of these organizations and other international bodies. The Forum will end on June 1. -03B06-
