Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan Inflicts Crushing Blows on Enemy
Baku / 27.09.20 / Turan: The military strikes of the Azerbaijani army on the enemy are a response to the large-scale provocation of the Armenian Armed Forces, undertaken this morning.
President Ilham Aliyev stated this today in a televised address to the people.
"The Azerbaijani army is currently striking the enemy's military positions," Aliyev said.
As a result of these strikes, a large number of enemy military equipment went out of action, he added.
He stressed that lately, military provocations of Armenia against Azerbaijan have become regular: “In July, as a result of artillery shelling in the Tovuz direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, our servicemen and one civilian were killed. It's no secret that Armenia was the first to open fire, including from artillery. The first killed were Azerbaijani servicemen. Azerbaijan gave a worthy response to the enemy, and the enemy could not advance a single centimeter. The enemy was stopped and the territorial integrity of our country was protected,” Aliyev said.
In August, the Armenian side sent a reconnaissance and sabotage group to attack military and civilian targets, the leader of which was detained and is now giving evidence.
“The provocations of Armenia are also reflected in the statements of the country's leadership. A year ago, the Prime Minister of Armenia announced in Khankendi in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan that Karabakh is Armenia. This is a lie, and I have repeatedly expressed my opinion on this matter. Karabakh is Azerbaijan! Such a provocative statement actually became a serious blow to the negotiation process,” Aliyev said.
The President of Azerbaijan added that the provocative statements of the Armenian leadership did not end with this - in parallel, for two years now, they have been declaring in Yerevan that Azerbaijan should negotiate not with Armenia, but with the unrecognized "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic".
“It also deals a serious blow to the negotiation process. Firstly, Azerbaijan will never conduct any negotiations with the puppet junta regime. Secondly, attempts to change the format of the negotiations once again show that the main goal of Armenia is to disrupt negotiations and maintain the status quo. This is despite the fact that the heads of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries have repeatedly stated that the status quo is not acceptable. This means that the occupation must end,” Aliyev said.
“Today Armenia is a threat to the region. Azerbaijan did not resort to provocation, but only defends its own positions," Aliyev said further.
He stressed that Armenia is an occupying country. "What are the Armenian soldiers doing on the Azerbaijani lands? The Azerbaijani army is fighting today on its territory, protecting territorial integrity, striking the enemy crushing blows. Our cause is right and we will win," Aliyev said. -0-

On December 18, the Baku Appeals Court rejected the appeal by economist and scholar Gubad Ibadoglu, challenging the decision to maintain his travel ban. Ibadoglu’s defense team had requested the lifting of the ban so that he could accept an invitation to attend the Sakharov Prize award ceremony at the European Parliament on December 17. Ibadoglu was one of the finalists for the prize, but the Narimanov District Court on December 3 had denied this request.
