Ilham Aliyev Participates in Meeting on UN Reform

Baku / 19.09.17 / Turan: On September 18, the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended a high-level meeting in the UN headquarters on the topic Supporting the Political Declaration on UN Reform, AzerTaj reports.

The US President Donald Trump actively supports the UN reform. Bureaucracy and inefficient governance do not allow the UN to work at its fullest, Trump said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutierrez said many people in the world suffer from conflicts and hunger. "These people need our help. We must carry out serious reforms in the structure and more effectively carry out our work. We are a global organization and we must justify people's trust," Gutierrez emphasized.

On September 18, Aliyev also met in New York with representatives of American Jewish organizations - the Jewish Organization of America, the World Jewish Congress, Bnai Brith International, the National Coalition supporting the Jews of Eurasia, the North American Jewish Federations, the Conference of Presidents of Jewish Organizations of America, and the Jewish Organization Vaad L` Hatzolas Nidchei Yisroel.

Aliyev spoke about the successful development of relations between Azerbaijan and the United States and expressed satisfaction with the development of Azerbaijani-Israeli relations.

During the conversation, the leaders of American Jewish organizations expressed their gratitude to President Aliyev for the conditions created for the Jewish community, like other communities, to live in Azerbaijan in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and tranquility.

At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the ongoing aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan, issues related to the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and prospects for economic development of Azerbaijan.

Within the framework of the visit to New York, Aliyev also met with the chairman of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding of the United States, Rabbi Mark Schneier, and a number of religious figures of Evangelical Christians. -06D--
