Ilham Aliyev rejects international criticism on the case of R. Safarov

President Ilham Aliyev does not accept international criticism of the official Baku for pardon the officer Ramil Safarov. Speaking yesterday in Sheki region, Aliyev said again that Safarov was extradited to Azerbaijan on the basis of the European Convention, and was pardoned by the country's constitution. "Armenians, the world Armenian lobby raised a fuss in the world. Earlier, I said that our main enemy is the Armenian lobby. They are currently conducting a dirty campaign against Azerbaijan. Corrupt, hypocritical senators, heads of international organizations, some politicians push against Azerbaijan groundless accusations. There are grounds for such charges. Everything was within the law, based on the  conventions accepted in  Europe" said Aliyev.

The  he criticized the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland. "See, what the General Secretary of the Council of Europe says This man, whose duty is  to typify humanity, protect human rights. Council of Europe has repeatedly put forward against Azerbaijan groundless accusations. I know it well, because three years, led a delegation of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe.

We were persistently under pressure to release criminals. I remember, among them was a criminal who, after release, at the insistence of the Council of Europe, committed a crime, killing an entire family - father, mother and little daughter.

This time, the Council of Europe accuses me of  pardoning Ramil Safarov. In the motherland   of that man (meaning Norway), Breivik killed 80 people and he was given 21 years in prison. Three months sentence  for each  killed. Is it possible? Why does not he speak about it," said Aliyev.

Azerbaijani President also pointed out the biased position of the  U.S. Senator, Menendez, calling it "pro-Armenian", "Islamophobia" and "anti-Azerbaijani" figure. Aliyev said that will not yield to any pressure.

The CE Secretary General, Jagland previously stated about the inadmissibility of making a  "hero" of  Safarov who  committed the murder. "I would not like to comment on the legal procedures, but I find it unacceptable that a convicted criminal is accepted as a hero,"  said Jagland.

The words of PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon  were sharper than  Jagland’s, but President Aliyev did not comment him.–06D-
