Ilham Aliyev: We Hope 2019 Will Give New Impetus to Settlement Process
Baku / 13.12.18 / Turan: The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that the year 2019 will give impetus to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. He said this at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Baku on December 13.
"Your visit is a good opportunity to discuss important issues of our bilateral cooperation, especially on the eve of the New Year, in order to outline our joint work plans for 2019, and also analyze what has been done this year," the President"s website quotes Ilham Aliyev .
In his opinion, the year 2018 was very fruitful in the development of the bilateral relations, and there were many meetings at the highest level.
"We are very active in international structures. Just recently, a week ago, an informal CIS summit was held in St. Petersburg. This was a very important event for the consolidation of the activities of the members of the organization. This year, a new composition of the intergovernmental commission has been formed, which has actively begun work and will meet literally in the near future. Also formed is a new composition of the Russian-Azerbaijani Business Council. That is, we have already given momentum to trade and economic relations, and investment projects, and I think that the results will be very good," Ilham Aliyev continued.
He said that during the meeting with Lavrov, issues related to the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will also be discussed. "We hope that 2019 will give a new impetus to the settlement process and, of course, we count on Russia's efforts as one of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to resolve the conflict," Aliyev said.
He noted with satisfaction the results of the work on the creation of the North-South corridor. "We are actively cooperating in this direction, the relevant transport structures are working very fruitfully, we already see good results this year and together with our other partners and neighbors we will promote this project so that it will be completed as soon as possible," Ilham Aliyev said. -06D--
