Baku/27.05.23/Turan: On May 27, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made a trip to the Kelbajar region, where he got acquainted with the progress of work on the restoration of infrastructure destroyed during the Armenian occupation. With his participation, the ceremonies of laying the foundations of the restored villages of Yanshag and Zallar were held, the website of the head of state reports.
The President also took part in the opening of the small hydroelectric power plants "Gamyshly" and "Meydan". Aliyev was provided with information about the tunnels built on the Toganaly-Kelbajar-Istisu highway with a length of 82 kilometers, as well as about the work carried out on this road in general from November 2021 to May 2023, as well as on the Kalbajar-Lachin highway with a length of 76 kilometers.
The Head of State also took part in the opening a military hospital in Kalbajar, the ceremonies of laying the foundation of a residential quarter and a school for 960 students. ---06B---

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
