Investigator does not allow Mirkadirov to communicate with relatives
Baku.12.05.14.Turan : Lawyers Fuad Agayev and Elmar Suleymanov visited MNS journalist Rauf Mirkadirov in prison. He was arrested on charges of spying for Armenia.
"He feels good, and does not complain of health. However, he still is unable to talk to independent and opposition press, and is not allowed to communicate with relatives and friends," said Agayev.
Being asked the reason for refusal, the lawyer noted that the investigator Ibrahim Lemberansky gave an order prohibiting such contacts. "By law, Mirkadyrov Rauf has the right to regularly communicate with relatives, talk on the phone, and receive press. Therefore, such bans are not justified," said the lawyer.
Agayev confirmed that Rauf Mirkadyrov still refuses to testify, although after he was arrested (on April 19) and charged, an interrogation and investigation was not actually conducted. The lawyer does not know how long this situation will continue.
The journalist is accused of passing information to the Armenians through civil society activist of Armenia, Laura Baghdasaryan, in 2008-2009. The nature of these secrets is not divulged.
According to investigators, all this "crime" took place in the framework of projects of the Institute for Peace and Democracy, led by Leyla Yunus with the NGO by Laura Baghdasaryan. - 02V -
