Iran Expresses Concern Over Security of Northern Borders Amidst Caucasus Developments
Baku/11.09.23/Turan: On September 11, Nasser Kanani, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, addressed concerns regarding the security of Iran's common borders with its northern neighbors during a press briefing. Kanani emphasized Iran's commitment to safeguarding its borders while closely monitoring the evolving situation in the Caucasus.
Kanani provided insights into developments in the Caucasus and Iran's efforts to engage with regional stakeholders. He highlighted Iran's ongoing communication with the authorities of both the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia. According to Kanani, Armenian authorities have expressed apprehensions regarding the possibility of a new military conflict initiated by the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In contrast, Azerbaijani authorities have conveyed a different message, stating that they do not have intentions of launching military attacks. They explained that recent troop movements are part of a routine military operation conducted as winter approaches, as the challenging terrain of mountainous areas becomes increasingly difficult to navigate.
Iran, Kanani stated, places a premium on the security of its shared borders with its northern neighbors. He reassured that Iran's borders remain secure and underscored the nation's continuous vigilance in monitoring developments in the Caucasus.--0-
