Iran has strengthened its Caspian fleet with the destroyer "Deylaman"
In a strategic move, Iran has augmented its naval capabilities with the introduction of the Dilman, a 1,400-ton destroyer equipped for launching cruise missiles and torpedoes. The Dilman, the fifth vessel of the Jamaran-class under the Moj project, was conceptualized by the Strategic Fleet of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It was constructed under the guidance of these forces in the Marine Industrial Complex and has now become an integral part of the Northern Fleet of the Strategic Fleet.
According to reports from the Associated Press, the Iranian Navy expanded its presence in the Caspian Sea with the inclusion of the Dilman, a destroyer boasting a length of 95 meters and a width of 11 meters. Notably, it has the capability to launch torpedoes while reaching speeds of 30 knots. The Dilman can effectively identify over 100 targets simultaneously, including ships, drones, helicopters, submarines, and aircraft.
During the unveiling ceremony of the Dilman, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, emphasized Iran's commitment to utilizing its naval power for peace, safeguarding merchant fleet security, and combating terrorism and potential future incidents.
This marks the sixth Iranian warship launched in the Caspian Sea, the world's largest lake. While Russia holds a predominant position as the leading maritime power in the Caspian, Iran has been striving to establish a notable presence since the late 1960s, steadily augmenting its maritime strength since the 1990s. The country currently maintains three naval bases along the Caspian Sea shores.
In an article by Jay Franzman in The Jerusalem Post, it was highlighted that the Dilman joins the ranks of the "Dana," "Sahand," and "Damavand" ships, underscoring Iran's growing influence in Central Asia and the expanding footprint along the Caspian Sea coast. This move signifies a strategic effort by Iran to assert its naval prowess in the region, reinforcing its geopolitical standing.
