Iran sends riot police of the Revolutionary Guards to protect Kerbela
The Iranian government has redeployed two battalions Goodes (Special Forces Revolutionary Guards) to the north of Iraq, where insurgents of the group "Islamic State of Iraq and Levant" (ISIL) continue to attack.
According to Wall Street Journal, the battalions have already participated in the fighting in the Tikrit area, freeing Thursday morning most of the city.
Iran is a Shiite state, which decided to help the Shiite-led government of the neighboring country. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in the speech on national television called ISIL "terrorist group, known for its cruelty." "The Iranian government will fight against extremist both in the region and around the world," he said.
The ISIL leaders announced the attack on Baghdad and the holy Shiite cities of Kerbela and Najaf.
Meanwhile, the ISIL gunmen moved their hostilities to the Diyala province, where on the night of June 13, they took three cities, including Jalawla. Thus they try to approach the regional center Baquba, cut off the Iraqi army from the Kurdish units occupying the area of Kirkuk and block Baghdad from the northeast.
ISIL started a serious offensive earlier in the week, when it captured Mosul - the largest city in northern Iraq, with a 2-million population. The regular army hastily retreated to the south. -02D-
