Jamil Hasanli: Arrested activists are tortured
Baku/27.07.20/Turan: The head of the National Council of Democratic Forces, Jamil Hasanli, said that arrested activists of the Popular Front Party are not brought to courts because of torture.
That is why, today, five activists were not brought to the Court of Appeal. They are deprived of the right to communicate with lawyers.
In his opinion, the reason is that the security forces want to hide the use of torture of those arrested in the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and in various police departments.
At the same time, those arrested are forced to cooperate with state lawyers.
“It seems that the ombudsman institution and the Red Cross have also failed in the country,” Hasanli said.
According to the PFPA, 36 activists were detained in connection with the rally in support of the army on July 14-15. 14 of them were prosecuted, including 13 arrested and one more transferred to police supervision. Nine activists were arrested administratively.
The rest were released after being questioned as witnesses. -03D-
